Changes to Rural LAP as at 31 December 2020

As you are aware, there is currently flexibility under Rural LAP to provide support for vacant positions, periods of illness/isolation and locum accommodation/travel allowance expenses for required periods of isolation.

After 31 December 2020, support for vacant positions will no longer continue. As COVID-19 restrictions have eased nationally, the Australian Government Department of Health wants the program to focus on supporting professionals to take leave.

Flexible support for periods of illness/isolation, or where a locum is required to isolate, will continue on an as needs basis until 31 March 2021 to allow the program to continue operations in the event of further outbreaks or border closures.

If you require support for leave or CPD you can apply for up to 14 days if you are a health service located in categories 2-4*, as determined by the Modified Monash Model (MMM), or up to 28 days of support for MMM 5-7 category locations. If you are eligible for up to 28 days of support, this can be divided into two placements over the period.

*Health professionals employed by the state or territory that are located in MMM 2-4 categories are not eligible to apply.
